Welcome
Welcome to Lord Howe Island General Practice, located in the Gower Wilson Memorial Hospital on Lagoon Road, Lord Howe Island.
At Lord Howe Island General Practice, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based healthcare to our community. We offer a comprehensive range of medical services, including general practice medicine, immunisations, nursing care, x-ray and on-site pathology collection, as well as hosting visiting medical specialists and dentists. As there is no pharmacy on the island, we are also licensed to dispense prescription medications, and have a selection of off-the-shelf and over-the-counter medications available.
Our experienced team of healthcare professionals work closely with specialists and allied health providers, to ensure a holistic approach to your well-being. Our mission is to deliver the best possible medical care in a supportive, respectful, and friendly environment —because your health matters to us.
Lord Howe Island General Practice operates as a private billing practice, please see our fees.
In collaboration with Gower Wilson Memorial Hospital run by South East Sydney Local Health District, we are the only medical facility on the island. Emergency care is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For serious and life-threatening emergencies, care is funded by the public health system for Medicare card holders. Other emergency care will attract a GP fee, including out-of-hours fees.
Safety First
If you are unwell with any respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms when visiting us in person, please put on a mask when you come in (supplied at reception).
We prefer face-to-face appointments most of the time, but Telehealth may be appropriate if you don’t need physical examination, and don’t want to risk spreading infectious diseases. Medicare rebates apply for telehealth if you’ve seen us in the last 12 months. We request that you book a telehealth appointment if you suspect your have COVID.
The NitroMeter
Liquid nitrogen is used to perform cryotherapy (the freezing of skin lesions). Our liquid nitrogen has to come on the boat from Port Macquarie, and it only lasts a few weeks before evaporating.
